Vertical array

The Ultra Light Vertical Array (ULVA) and the High Frequency Array (HFA) have been built by CO.L.MAR. s.r.l., La Spezia, Italy after a contract from Instituto Hydrografico in Lisbon, Instituto Superiore Tecnico in Lisbon, Centro Investigaçao Tecnologica do Algarve in Faro.

Purpose of the ULVA system is to study propagation of acoustic waves in the ocean, in the frequency range up to 2 kHz, putting them in relation with water temperature distribution. Purpose of the HFA system is to study high frequency propagation, in the 20 - 70 kHz region, for applications to acoustic remote control and communications with underwater vehicles.
